Why I hate school

... but love Education!

"I Will Not Let An Exam Result Decide My Fate" picks up on the education topic but takes a different stance and angle from "Why I Hate School But Love Education". This poem talks about how we have been made to think about how education and getting university degrees can give us opportunities to have a better chance in making our dream careers a reality. It also touches on how as individuals we are judged and tested by how well we perform on exams, but not all people perform well in exams so why are they made out to feel like they're dumb? The inconsistencies of the education system are really peeled open to reveal a deep problem that needs to be addressed and how society's needs have changed to make this even more apparent.

When it boils down to it, why are we misled into thinking that education is the only way forward for successful means in our work and career lives? We need to open our minds and educate ourselves that exam results aren't the barometer of success and that we can't let them decide our fate. We are in charge of our own destinies!

You can be the greatest

To all my students I've said 'good-bye' or 'see you, next year', I dedicate the lyrics of this song by The Script. I truly believe 'you can be the greatest', as long as you 'don't wait for luck' and 'dedicate yourself (...)'. Having said this, enjoy your summer holidays! For those that are about to have the national exams, I hope your effort and commitment throughout the past eleven years turn out into results that allow you to accomplish your dreams!

Yeah, you can be the greatest, You can be the best
You can be the King Kong banging on your chest
You could beat the world, You could beat the war
You could talk to God, go banging on his door
You can throw your hands up
You can beat the clock (yeah)
You can move a mountain
You can break rocks
You can be a master
Don't wait for luck
Dedicate yourself and you gon' find yourself

To all my students...

... that are already indulging in two 'dolce fare niente' (the sweetness of doing nothing) weeks! I wish you take a vigorous rest and have loads of fun during this Easter break, so as to return in April boosted with energy! You'll need it! Some of you are having national final exams in June. As, for us, Teachers, we're still with a busy agenda, but, hopefully, in a few days, we will be able to express the feeling stated in the picture below. I'm sure all of you can relate to these words, can't you?

(I came across this picture via Facebook some time ago, so I can't state its credits)

Are you ready?

A cartoon by Randy Glasbergen
T@PT is back this week but not to welcome the 2012-2013 school year yet, as today begins the exams season, part II, for 6th and 9th form students who failed their exams back in July... You were given a new possibility to succeed and hopefully start the new school year either in the 7th or 10th form. Having said this, on your marks, get set, GO!

The exams season is about to begin...

It's not a good season! Definitely NOT! Neither for teachers, nor for students! Every teacher has already been a student, so it's impossible not to remember how we feel amongst the tons of papers one has to study! But as teachers our life hasn't become any easier, you know... Someone has to correct the exams... Have you got any idea how long it takes to correct a single exam? Trust me, it takes much longer than you can possibly imagine!
Having said this, in case you feel like the caption below the picture, don't forget that you are not alone! Studying, dying, correcting & marking exams... It all comes together in the same miserable packet!
Let us yet keep calm and get focused: it's just the "exams season"!... Holidays will be here soon enough... I mean, the end of July is not that far, is it? "Time is psychological", I've heard that before!... Let us keep calm, anyway!... Always keep calm and carry on!... We'll make it through this 'dying' season!...
