Another suggestion, this time for 11th form students!...
Topic - New technologies
Well, I believe all of us know how important it is to use humour in our classes... I´ve introduced the topic New Technology with this videoclip and the students, obviously, loved it!... They had to comment on the content, as well as, on what made that video such a blast!... It was a funny and entertaining moment... But most important, it made them speak... in English, of course!...
I've used this videoclip as a listening comprehension exercise with no subtitles. In spite of considering the images and the sound powerful, the students, including the strongest ones, found it hard to understand... Well, developing our skills is not necessarily easy, is it?... Being better than one might already be implies hard work, right?
In the end, the students liked the activity and understood its message. For them, the 'F' word has a new meaning!... For me, Bono will continue to be a presence in my lessons, whenever it's adequate!...
This week, I have shown the film 'Dangerous Minds' to my vocational course students (TT - Técnico de Turismo and TAGD - Técnico de Apoio à Gestão Desportiva). Even though the film was released in 1995, it is pretty much updated. It not only shows how hard our profession definitely is but also how rewarding it might as well be!...
